Winds of Genocide – Usurping the Throne of Disease (Pulverised Records, 2015).

The best way to summarise this savage release is to state that, despite the band being English, it is ultimately very Swedish in its sound. A harsh crust/d-beat sound influenced by Anti-Cimex, Wolfbrigade et al with lashings of Swedish Death Metal on top, this is a top-rate record. The riffs are largely power chord driven and the structures more d-beat like, but there is a definite feel of old-school Swedish Death Metal in some of the riffs, adding to the general pummelling nature of the album. At points, there does seem to be some Black Metal influence, such as in the song around. The guitar tone is quite raw, which definitely helps deliver the d-beat death metal destruction. The vocals are on point, with properly powerful, pissed-off growls. I have few criticisms of this record, and it leaves me hopeful for more crusty death metal madness.

7.5/10.
