Witchsorrow – No Light… Only Fire… (Candlelight Records, 2015).

When you have a band as heavy as the testicles of titans, and who are renowned for continuously producing good material without deviating greatly from their tried and tested style, you know you’re onto a winner. And so it comes as no surprise that the latest album from Farnborough based Doom trio Witchsorrow is a cracking release. Starting with the adrenaline-fuelled, testosterone soaked There Is No Light, There Is Only Fire, a faster number with savage fury, the album onwards proceeds more to the traditional world of evil Doom. The vocals of Necroskull (aka Nick Ruskell- an amusing pun if I say so myself) sound even more tortured than ever on songs such as Made of the Void. The album is a bleak, nihilistic soundscape, suffocating all hope and drenched in misery, and it is addictive. The concluding track De Mysteriis Doom Sabbathas, an interesting reference to Mayhem originally from the 2013 EP of the same name, is 14 minutes of bleak, balls-breakingly heavy Doom and encapsulates the album perfectly.

8/10.
