Coscradh – Of Death And Delirium (Invictus Productions. 2017).

Once again, Coscradh has summoned forth the forces of Darkness and have brought into the world a putrid abomination, bearing the awe-inspiring and fearful vista of some hideous monstrosity unearthed in a forgotten corner of the world. All Hell comes forth on Disappeared, which comes rushing from the speakers at you like some deranged spirit of pure, bestial hate and rage in a two minute medley of madness and some crushing riffs before the noise outro perfectly sets the scene for the second song Hangwoman with some terrifying shrieks mixed with the noise to create what sounds like the screams of the damned. The second song Hangwoman starts as a furious affair, before a malevolent mid-paced section becomes much more dominant during the middle of the song, which possesses an unnerving feel to it and blends perfectly with the shrieking solos and the furious riffs of the rest of the song to create a disorientating attack on the senses. The final song on this is Saor sa hAnbháis, which is a beast of a song at around eleven minutes in length. The song title translates roughly as “Free in the Mass”, with lyrics seeming to describe the drunken demise and eventual suicide of an individual. Coscradh have crafted a perfect song for the EP, as it oozes all of the malevolence that one could hope for from this band of Irish maniacs. The section from around the five-minute mark onward just possesses an otherworldly sense of evil and power, with slower, morbid riffs sounding like the earth sundering wide and collapsing beneath your feet as you find yourself falling into the realm of the dead and being consumed by the damned. It is a crushing, earth sundering moment, wherein one feels their existence torn apart, and the spectre of Death appear before them, and works perfectly to create this sense of desolation and death as described in the lyrics. The production is perfectly suited for this EP, with guitars sounding suitably boggy. At only nineteen minutes, whilst a killer and perfectly rounded EP, it leaves me wanting more…

8/10.
