Shrine of Insanabilis – Tombs Opened by Fervent Tongues… Earth’s Final Necropolis (World Terror Committee. 2016).

A two-song EP coming in at around 12 minutes, this is an interesting. The first track, Burning Voice, starts off with a continuation of the outro instrumental track Omega from their debut album Disciples of the Void, which is a beautiful, melancholic track consisting of pianos and strings seemingly in reverse, but now with added brief sections of drum rolls beneath that helps build up to the actual song itself. After around a minute, it builds into the actual song itself, with a menacing introductory section that sets the scene perfectly before the maelstrom hits. It is a well written, atmospheric piece that would fit well on the album, with faster, raging sections carrying the same sense of universal collapse as the mid-paced and slower sections. The guitars are like the void of space, being ethereal and deadly cold, which helps with this Odyssey into oblivion. Admittedly, the ending feels a bit abrupt, and so somewhat disrupts the feeling and snaps you out of the mesmerised state that the rest of the song casts you into. Aside from that, it is a fantastic song. The second track, Harmatia, continues where the first left off, further establishing the alien feeling that pervades this EP. As said earlier, the guitar sound is icy, and adds to the riffs. Meanwhile, the drums are not too loud, and are perfectly balanced in my opinion. The kickdrum rumbles beneath the guitars for the first two minutes of the second song, which adds to the entrancing and somewhat hypnotising effect of the main riff during that section of the song. This is a brilliant EP that feels like it would also work well as bonus tracks on the album. It is a good effort, but as it is so short, it does leave you hungry for more. 7.5/10.
